Age-independent diameter increment models for mixed mountain forests

چکیده

Abstract Mixed mountain forests with an uneven-aged structure are characterized by a high tree-growth variability making traditional age-dependent growth models inapplicable. Estimating site productivity is yet another impediment for modelling tree in such forests. Uneven-aged mixed-stand known their resilience, resistance and productivity, being promoted as suitable alternative to even-aged, pure plantations climate change adaptation mitigation. However, must be accurately measured predicted, but diameter at the breast height ( dbh ) increment specifically designed mixed still rare. Using permanent sampling network data 465 cores, we built two age-independent $${i}_{d}$$ i d main species of study area, namely Norway spruce Picea abies (L.) Karst.), silver fir Abies alba Mill.) A past index was further developed introduced model order explain variability. Several calibration strategies assessed obtain most accurate localized curve new plots. A Basal Area Increment-Based Approach of Site Productivity Evaluation for Multi-Aged and Mixed Forests

Accurate estimates of forest site productivity are essential for environmental planning and forest management. In this study, we developed a new productivity index, hereafter termed basal area potential productivity index (BAPP), to estimate site productivity for irregular and complex forests characterized by multi-aged, multi-species, and multi-layer stands. We presented the biological relevan...

Independent increment processes for human motion recognition

This paper describes an algorithm for classifying human motion patterns (trajectories) observed in video sequences. We address this task in a hierarchical way: high-level activities are described as sequences of low-level motion patterns (dynamic models). These low-level dynamic models are simply independent increment processes, each describing a specific motion regime (e.g., ‘‘moving left’’). ...

The Efficacy of Using Inventory Data to Develop Optimal Diameter Increment Models

—Most optimal tree diameter growth models have arisen through either the conceptualization of physiological processes or the adaptation of empirical increment models. However, surprisingly little effort has been invested in the melding of these approaches even though it is possible to develop theoretically sound, computationally efficient optimal tree growth models using inventory data. The Pot...

Sampling Independent Increment Processes without Gaussian Component

It is well known that any process with right continuous paths has at most a finite number of jumps greater than ε (> 0). Based on this fact, it is proved that any non negative independent increment processes without gaussian component (Lévy Process) can be almost everywhere approximated by a sequence of compound Poisson process, aside from fixed points of discontinuity. An algorithm to generate...
