Aflatoxin contamination in food crops: causes, detection, and management: a review

چکیده
Abstract Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by several fungal species and molds. Under favorable conditions like high temperature moisture, they contaminate a large number of food commodities regional crops during pre post-harvesting. Aflatoxin is the main mycotoxin that harm animal human health due to its carcinogenic nature. Aflatoxins mainly released Aspergillus flavus parasiticus . AFB1 constitutes most harmful type aflatoxins potent hepato-carcinogenic, mutagenic, teratogenic it suppresses immune system. To maintain safety prevent aflatoxin contamination in crops, combined approaches using resistant varieties along with recommended farming practices should be followed. This review concentrates on various aspects recent methods or minimize contamination.

متن کاملEtiology and Management of Aflatoxin Contamination
Aflatoxins are potent poisons that contaminate crops in warm regions worldwide and reduce health and economic welfare in several portions of Africa. Crops are contaminated in two phases: First, Aspergillus species infect crops during development; and second, after maturation contamination builds during exposure to warm humid conditions. Identification of the exact fungi causing contamination ca...

Background and Objectives: Aflatoxin is one of the most important and common toxins in high consumption foods such as rice, which can threaten health of the consumers. In this study, risk of total aflatoxin based on its exposure levels and adverse effects was assessed in Iranian rice. Materials & Methods: This study was carried out on total aflatoxin in 60 national rice samples collected base...
متن کاملIncidence of aflatoxin contamination in non-perishable food commodities.
To assess the incidence of aflatoxins contamination in different commodities, a representative countrywide study was conducted. One hundred composed samples of cereals, grains, spices, condiments and refined and raw sugars were analysed for aflatoxin B1, B2, G1 and G2. The moisture contents of all the food samples were also invariably determined. Only 6% of the samples namely maize and red chil...

Introduction: Aflatoxins are secondary fungal metabolites produced by Aspergillus fungi, in particular Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus nomius and Aspergillus parasiticus. Aflatoxins have undesirable effects on human and animal health and lead to various diseases, including liver disorders. Four main types of aflatoxin are B1, B2, G1 and G2, and aflatoxin M1 and M2 are metabolites derived from a...
