Affinity between Bitumen and Aggregate in Hot Mix Asphalt by Hyperspectral Imaging and Digital Picture Analysis

چکیده
This study investigated the viability of quantifying affinity between aggregate and bitumen by means different imaging techniques. Experiments were arranged in accordance with rolling-bottle test, as indicated UNI EN 12697-11, “Test methods for hot bituminous conglomerates—Part 11”. Digital image processing (DIP) techniques have only recently been used such quantification. The data gathered a multi-sensor optical platform equipped VIS–NIR SWIR spectrometers compared DIP outcomes. Data processed using unsupervised ISODATA supervised parallelepiped algorithms. exposed index (EAI) (BIT) calculated to retrieve percentage coverage mixtures. comparison results obtained employing traditional 6, 24, 48 72 testing hours reveals possibility implement standardized analysis methodology combining digital hyperspectral imagery highlight potential inaccuracies deriving from visual interpretation.

Rutting of flexible pavement is considered one of the major pavement distresses noted around the world and in Egypt. Many investigators showed at about 55 to 80% of rutting occurred in the surface layer. Rutting of asphalt surface layer may be due to many causes happened during construction phase and service phase. The main objectives of this research are to evaluate the impact of aggregate gra...
متن کاملBitumen Removal Determination on Asphalt Pavement Using Digital Imaging Processing and Spectral Analysis
This research aims to define an efficient and fast quantification of bitumen removal on the road surface by Digital Imaging Processing (DIP) and spectral analysis. The retrieval of bitumen removal is an important issue for road management and environmental studies related to asphalt wear and environmental pollution. The calculation of the Exposed Aggregate Index (EAI), based on DIP, allows to q...

متن کاملInfrared Thermography Revolutionizes Hot-Mix Asphalt Paving
Hot-mix asphalt (HMA) surfaces comprise about 90% of the highways and roads in the U.S. Highways and are typically engineered to last 15 years or more, but many have been failing early due to potholes, cracks, raveling, and other problems. This premature road failure unnecessarily wastes millions of taxpayer dollars every year. This paper describes a series of research studies that were conduct...
