Abstract This article explores the relationship between affectedness and Differential Object Marking (DOM) of indefinite direct objects in Turkish Uzbek. We argue that distribution DOM two Turkic languages is determined by objects’ specificity animacy as nominal semantic properties, a verbal property associated with object. provide original empirical evidence from forced-choice studies investigate along parameters animacy, affectedness, telicity, their interaction each other. Our findings indicate shapes both Uzbek, an interesting variation how it instantiated interacts animacy. The do not confirm impact telicity independent factor driving overt case marking investigated. Rather, its influence on stems affectedness.

Affectedness and Differential Object Marking in Spanish
In this study we investigate the impact of affectedness on the diachronic development of Differential Object Marking (DOM) in Spanish. DOM in Spanish synchronically depends on (i) the referential features of the direct object, such as animacy and referentiality, and (ii) the semantics of the verb. Several studies have also shown that the diachronic development of DOM proceeds along the Animacy ...

Various researchers have used coding strategies such word order, case and pronominal marking to predict asymmetries between different object functions and/or information structure roles such as topics and foci. Moreover, some studies have also suggested that there exists a correlation between different grammatical functions and information structure roles. This paper analyzes object marking in ...

متن کاملSemantics of Differential Object Marking in Persian ∗
Differential Object Marking (DOM) is a prevalent phenomenon in the world’s languages in which the case marking of the object NP is determined by certain semantic factors. Notions such as “animacy”, “definiteness”, “specificity”, and “topicality” are often invoked to explain the semantic contribution of the case marker in languages with DOM. In this paper, I investigate the semantic contribution...
متن کاملTurkish Indefinites and Accusative Marking
The paper addresses the issue of the effects of overt accusative (Acc) vs. zero (∅) marking on the interpretation of indefinite direct objects in Turkish. Previous attacks on the issue came up with various associations of the overt accusative case with certain semantic and pragmatic categories. A representative list goes as follows: Discourse-linking (Nilsson 1985; Enç 1991; Zidani-Eroğlu 1997)...
