چکیده
Abstract Besides the investigation of aeroacoustics responses an asymmetric aerofoil subjected to serrated trailing edge flap angles from negative (flap-down) positive (flap-up), this paper also provides a new perspective on physical mechanisms broadband noise reduction by edge. The blade-loading effect, which is function length and angle for straight/non-serrated flat plate, plays considerable role in self-noise radiation that hitherto less recognised. When same plate cut into sawtooth serration shape, will be underpinned simultaneously both effect (dominant) effect. results demonstrate far-field can manipulated significantly depending direction angle. In flap-down configuration, become factor causes deterioration performance across entire frequency range. flap-up three spectral frequencies zones defined. At low-frequency zone, diminished cross-flow at gaps impede capability. central-frequency re-distribution turbulence sources spanwise scales enhance performance. Improvement achieved high-frequency zone owing lack interaction between structure. A concept positively demonstrated varying as periodic (spanwise wavy serration). compared non-flap edge, found further increase level central regions. Graphic abstract

Performance and mechanism of sinusoidal leading edge serrations for the reduction of turbulence-aerofoil interaction noise
This paper presents the results of a detailed experimental investigation into the effectiveness of sinusoidal leading edge serrations on aerofoils for the reduction of the noise generated by the interaction with turbulent flow. A detailed parametric study is performed to investigate the sensitivity of the noise reductions to the serration amplitude and wavelength. The study is primarily perform...
متن کاملThe Aerodynamic Noise of a Slot in an Aerofoil
SUMMARY This Report describes a theoretical investigation of the noise generated when turbulence interacts with a slot between a wing and flap. The slot is modelled by the region between two overlapping, semi-infinite rigid planes representing the wing and flap, and sound is produced when turbulence convects above, below or through the slot. The analysis determines the dependence of the radiate...
متن کاملOn broadband jet-ring interaction noise and aerofoil turbulence-interaction noise predictions
The aerodynamic noise of a thin rigid annulus (referred to as the ring here) placed in the mixing layer of a subsonic circular jet is investigated in the paper, both theoretically and experimentally. From the experimental point of view, the jet–ring configuration is understood as an axisymmetric alternative to more usual ones involving a rectangular aerofoil held between parallel side plates, d...

متن کاملDynamics of a FitzHugh - Nagumo system subjected to autocorrelated noise
Physical and biological systems are continuously perturbed by random fluctuations produced by noise sources always present in open systems (1). In physical and biological systems, noise can be responsible for several interesting and counterintuitive effects. Resonant activation (RA) and noise enhanced stability (NES) are two noise activated phenomena that have been widely investigated in a diss...
