Adolescent students’ digital engagement and achievement goal orientation profiles

The current study investigated how students' digital engagement (i.e., learning preference, wish for schoolwork, and schoolwork sleep impairment related to Internet use) is their achievement goal orientation profiles from Grades 8 9. sample included 1482 Finnish students (15–16 years old, 53% female) 26 schools. Students’ orientations were assessed with self-reported questionnaires. Latent profile latent transition analyses used investigate profiles, the Bolck-Croon-Hagenaars approach logistic regression explore differences between respect engagement. Four groups different identified: mastery-oriented (focused on doing well in school); success-oriented (driven succeed school outperform others); indifferent (had all goals at average level); avoidance-oriented (sought avoid schoolwork). Most tended remain a similar group over time. results indicated that either (indifferent) or high (success-oriented) might more digitally mediated schoolwork. Mastery-oriented have significantly lower use than other students. findings supported previous studies but also provided new insights into relationships
