Addressing silences in research on girls’ experiences of teacher sexual violence: insights from Uganda

Growing evidence from multiple countries in Africa documents sexual violence schools. However, when that is committed by teachers it shrouded secrecy. This article identifies disconnects between quantitative and qualitative research, policy practice, which have contributed to these silences. We address some of silences through a dialogical analysis mixed methods data the Contexts Violence Adolescence Cohort study (CoVAC) with young people Uganda. The illuminates girls’ experiences school staff, patterns discrimination inequality increase vulnerabilities. reveal how schools vary their institutional responses and, absence support, girls develop strategies resist coercion.
