چکیده
For the past 20 years, democratization of additive manufacturing (AM) technologies has made many us dream of: low cost, waste-free, and on-demand production functional parts; fully customized tools; designs limited by imagination only, etc. As every patient is unique, potential AM for medical field thought to be considerable: would allow division dedicated patient-specific healthcare solutions entirely adapted patients’ clinical needs. Pertinently, this review offers an extensive overview bone-related applications ongoing research trends, from 3D anatomical models student education ephemeral structures supporting promoting bone regeneration. Today, undoubtably improved care should facilitate more improvements in near future. However, despite research, AM-based strategies regeneration remain only without compelling proof concept date. This may due a lack understanding biological mechanisms guiding formation traditional top-down devised solve issues. Indeed, integrated holistic approach recommended design regenerative systems (i.e., fixation scaffolds) remained at conceptual state. Challenged these issues, slower but incremental dynamic occurred last few recent progress suggests notable improvement years come, with view development safe, robust standardized large defects.

The status, challenges, and future of additive manufacturing in engineering
Additive manufacturing (AM) is poised to bring about a revolution in the way products are designed, manufactured, and distributed to end users. This technology has gained significant academic as well as industry interest due to its ability to create complex geometries with customizable material properties. AM has also inspired the development of the maker movement by democratizing design and ma...
متن کاملAugmented Reality Interfaces for Additive Manufacturing
This paper explores potential use cases for using augmented reality (AR) as a tool to operate industrial machines. As a baseline we use an additive manufacturing system, more commonly known as a 3D printer. We implement novel augmented interfaces and controls using readily available open source frameworks and low cost hardware. Our results show that the technology enables richer and more intuit...
متن کاملClinical Therapy Using iPSCs: Hopes and Challenges
Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are generated by ectopic expression of defined transcription factors in somatic cells. They can undergo unlimited self-renewal and maintain the embryonic stem cells (ESCs)-like ability to differentiate into all three germ layers. iPSCs can potentially provide unlimited autologous cells for therapy and therefore hold great promise for regenerative medicine....
متن کاملTreatment of Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders with Deep Brain Stimulation Raising Hopes and Future Challenges
The technology of Neural Stimulation in recent years has become the focus of the research and treatment, although it has been around for many years. The potential use of stimulating the brain and nerves ranges from the spinal cord stimulation to the implantations of cochlear and bionic eyes with a large discrepancy between the clinical readiness for these various uses. Electrical high-frequency...
متن کاملTranslating preclinical hopes into clinical reality for children with ependymoma.
Standard of care for pediatric ependymoma comprises maximal surgery and focal radiotherapy. This is, however, not sufficient to cure all patients, and approximately one third will eventually relapse. With the exception of a study with a gamma-secretase inhibitor, most of the phase I/II trials performed to date in children with ependymoma have not been driven by a strong preclinical background, ...
