Adaptive computations on conforming quadtree meshes
In this paper, the quadtree data structure and conforming polygonal interpolants are used to develop an h-adaptive finite element method. Quadtree is a hierarchical data structure that is computationally attractive for adaptive numerical simulations. Mesh generation and adaptive refinement of quadtree meshes is straight-forward. However, finite elements are non-conforming on quadtree meshes due...
متن کاملPolygonal Interpolants: Construction and Adaptive Computations on Quadtree Meshes
Abstract. In this paper, recent advances in meshfree approximations, computational geometry, and computer graphics are described towards the development of polygonal interpolants. A particular and notable contribution is the use of meshfree (Laplace) basis functions that are based on the concept of natural neighbors. These are defined on a canonical element and an affine map is used to construc...

متن کاملA tetrahedral space-filling curve for non-conforming adaptive meshes
We introduce a space-filling curve for triangular and tetrahedral red-refinement that can be computed using bitwise interleaving operations similar to the well-known Z-order or Morton curve for cubical meshes. To store the information necessary for random access, we suggest 10 bytes per triangle and 14 bytes per tetrahedron. We present algorithms that compute the parent, children, and face-neig...
متن کاملComparing Small Visual Differences between Conforming Meshes
This paper gives a method of quantifying (small) visual differences between 3D mesh models with conforming topology, based on the theory of strain fields. Our experiments show that our difference estimates are well correlated with human perception of differences. This work has applications in the evaluation of 3D mesh watermarking, 3D mesh compression reconstruction, and 3D mesh filtering.
