Transesophageal echocardiography during pulmonary vein cryoballoon ablation for atrial fibrillation.
We describe our first 20 cases of cryoablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) using transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). Continuous procedural monitoring with TEE by a cardiologist and senior sonographer assists the electrophysiologist in performance of the cryoballoon procedure of AF. Previously using intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) we have found TEE to have better overall procedural imagi...
متن کاملFunctional Pulmonary Vein Isolation During Atrial Fibrillation Ablation.
We report a case of apparent isolation of the right inferior pulmonary vein during atrial fibrillation ablation coincident with the onset of an atrial tachycardia. This report highlights the importance of assessing pulmonary vein conduction during sinus or paced rhythm at relatively long cycle length, rather than in atrial fibrillation or atrial tachycardia.
متن کاملPulmonary hemorrhage due to pulmonary venous occlusion after radiofrequency catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation.
A recent worldwide survey reported that the frequency of PV stenoses requiring intervention was 0.29% [1] . Packer et al. [2] reported that only 1 case had hemoptysis in 23 patients with PV stenosis after ablation. An early diagnosis using multi-detector cardiac CT or dynamic MRI after ablation is the diagnostic modality of choice. Although angioplasty was not applied in either case, the Case 1...

Despite all that information, our current pharmacological and nonpharmacological means to prevent or control the arrhythmia are frequently disappointing. Often, its presence has to be accepted, and measures to control the ventricular rate and to prevent thromboembolic complications have to be applied. New modes of treatment aimed at preventing the arrhythmia are therefore eagerly welcomed and i...
متن کاملAtrial fibrillation ablation: Limitations of pulmonary vein ablation catheter technology.
We read with interest the paper by Koźluk et al. [1], which brings several points about multi-electrode duty-cycled radiofrequency ablation: — The outcome in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) was lower when compared to 1and 5-year follow-up after single cryoballoon ablation procedure performed with higher follow-up regime (7and not 1-day Holter ECG) [2]. Most triggers originate ...
