چکیده
Abstract Tilapia production in Ghana has been hit with episodes of stress and pathogen-induced mass fish kills which have anecdotally linked to the culture illegally imported Genetically Improved Farmed (GIFT) strains Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus . This study was thus set up comprehensively assess tolerance GIFT strain a native tilapia (the Akosombo strain) following exposures hyperthermic hypoxic stressors. In series experiments, oxygen consumption ( M O 2 ), aquatic surface respiration (ASR), thermal limits hypoxia were assessed. The effects these stressors on haematological parameters also less tolerant performed ASR at higher levels than strain. Under progressive hypoxia, exhibited gill ventilations frequencies f V) trial indicated that O. thermotolerance this reflective LT 50 (45.1℃) max (48℃), compared 41.5℃ 46℃ respectively. These results imply it is crucial consider how performs under various environmental conditions changes during culture. Particularly, raising earthen ponds rich phytoplankton subject protracted extreme may detrimental physiological impact its growth welfare.

Metacercarial Infection of Wild Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) from Brazil
Fingerlings of Oreochromis niloticus collected in an artificial urban lake from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, were evaluated for natural infection with trematodes. Morphological taxonomic identification of four fluke species was performed in O. niloticus examined, and the total prevalence of metacercariae was 60.7% (37/61). Centrocestus formosanus, a heterophyid found in the gills, was ...
متن کاملScreening and identification of microsatellite markers associated with cold tolerance in Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus.
Tilapia is an important fish cultured in tropical and subtropical areas. Cold sensitivity limits the expansion of tilapia culture into colder regions of the world, and mass mortalities of cultured tilapia have been reported due to severe cold currents in winter. Since the late 1990s, several strains of Nile tilapia have been domesticated to improve the ability to adapt to low temperatures. Prev...
متن کاملVisual communication stimulates reproduction in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.).
Reproductive fish behavior is affected by male-female interactions that stimulate physiological responses such as hormonal release and gonad development. During male-female interactions, visual and chemical communication can modulate fish reproduction. The aim of the present study was to test the effect of visual and chemical male-female interaction on the gonad development and reproductive beh...
متن کاملStrategies for Nile Tilapia (oreochromis Niloticus) Pond Culture
Different strategies for Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) culture in ponds with a series of progressive inputs were compared. The sequential experimental stages to increase fish production through intensification were: 1) triple superphosphate (TSP) only; 2) chicken manure only; 3) chicken manure supplemented with urea or urea and TSP; 4) urea and TSP; 5) continually supplemental feeding; 6...
متن کاملBehaviours Associated with Acoustic Communication in Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)
BACKGROUND Sound production is widespread among fishes and accompanies many social interactions. The literature reports twenty-nine cichlid species known to produce sounds during aggressive and courtship displays, but the precise range in behavioural contexts is unclear. This study aims to describe the various Oreochromis niloticus behaviours that are associated with sound production in order t...
