چکیده

Introduction: New Zealand Blackcurrant Extract (NZBC) is a popular ergogenic aid used to improve endurance performance. The aim of this research was determine the effects single bolus NZBC on 10-km time trial (TT) cycling performance in normobaric hypoxia. Methods: A double-blind, crossover design study conducted with trained cyclists. acute (900 mg) were compared placebo hypoxia (NH) (FiO2 = 15.5%). Testing comprised three laboratory-based visits for (1) familiarisation (and screening TT before entry into study), (2) and (3) NZBC, whereby completed one hour after consumption. After completion blood lactate assessed at four time-points 10 minutes following. Throughout TT, power output (PO), rating perceived exertion (RPE) heart rate (HR) recorded. Results: had no effect NH (1078.4 s [1009.4, 1147.4] 1071.0 [1006.4, 1137.5] respectively, p=0.31; d=-0.31). Additionally, difference observed mean (p=0.20; d=0.39), HR (p=0.76; d=0.09) or 1-km intervals (p=0.80), PO (p=0.77) RPE (p=0.41). Post exercise recovery did not differ between (p=0.42). Conclusion: Acute intake has simulated altitude.

Effect of New Zealand Blackcurrant Extract on Repeated Cycling Time Trial Performance

New Zealand blackcurrant (NZBC) extract increased 16.1 km cycling time trial performance. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of NZBC extract on 2 × 4 km time trial performance. Ten male cyclists (age: 30 ± 12 years, body mass: 74 ± 9 kg, height: 179 ± 7 cm, body fat: 11 ± 3%, V̇O2max: 55 ± 7 mL·kg−1·min−1, mean ± SD) volunteered. Participants were familiarized with the time t...

Effect of New Zealand Sujon blackcurrant on cardiovascular responses during cycling in triathletes

Background Anthocyanin is a component known to induce vasorelaxation and vasodilation in rat aortic rings [1] and is present in high amounts in New Zealand Sujon blackcurrant. During typing work in humans, an activity of low intensity, peripheral blood flow was increased by blackcurrant intake [2]. It is not known whether anthocyanin would affect the cardiovascular responses at different exerci...

The effect of beta-alanine supplementation on isokinetic force and cycling performance in highly trained cyclists.

Beta-alanine may benefit short-duration, high-intensity exercise performance. The aim of this randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study was to examine the effects of beta-alanine supplementation on aspects of muscular performance in highly trained cyclists. Sixteen highly trained cyclists (mean ± SD; age = 24 ± 7 yr; mass = 70 ± 7 kg; VO2max = 67 ± 4 ml · kg(-1) · min(-1)) supplemented w...

Effect of New Zealand Blackcurrant Extract on Performance during the Running Based Anaerobic Sprint Test in Trained Youth and Recreationally Active Male Football Players

It was observed previously that New Zealand blackcurrant (NZBC) extract reduced slowing of the maximal 15 m sprint speed during the Loughborough Intermittent Shuttle Test. We examined the effect of NZBC extract on the performance of the Running Based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST, 6 × 35-m sprints with 10 seconds passive recovery) in trained youth and recreationally active football players. Fifte...
