Acute appendicitis coexisting with acute pyelonephritis causing diagnostic dilemma: a case report

Abstract Background Acute appendicitis and acute pyelonephritis are the most common diseases admitted to emergency departments. Both conditions have symptoms such as flank pain, abdominal fever. Patients’ history, physical examination, laboratory evaluation, imaging methods used differentiate these two conditions. Diverticulitis, colitis, gynecological pathologies, ureteral stones that mimic should be kept in mind differential diagnoses. Cases of mimicking been reported literature, but there has not a case which occurs during management pyelonephritis. In this article, report can cause diagnostic dilemma presented. Case presentation A 42-year-old female patient presented with clinical features suggestive developed after diagnosis She underwent laparoscopic appendectomy on account medical treatment for Physical examination showed only right costovertebral tenderness without any rebound at McBurney’s point first admission, was also detected. The Alvarado score 5 admission 7 when diagnosed. fully recovered discharged both were completely treated. Conclusions As seen case, it remembered together causes dilemma. If or biochemical progression is detected under treatment, repeated additional ones higher resolutions used.
