Actual Precipitation Index (API) for Drought Classification

چکیده

Abstract The Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) is a widely used statistical technique for the characterization of droughts. It based on probabilistic standardization procedure, which converts Gamma-type probability distribution function (PDF) into normal (Gaussian) standard series with zero mean and unit deviation. Drought classification SPI indicates dry wet spell characteristics, provided that hydro-meteorological records abide by PDF only, otherwise results will be biased. Therefore, in this paper, actual precipitation index (API) method presented, provides drought information regardless underlying PDFs. main purpose paper to explain differences between API prove use more reliable solution droughts five categories described as “Normal dry”, “Slightly “Medium “Very dry” “Extremely dry”. application methodology presented two sets data; one exponential monthly from Istanbul City, Turkey New Jersey, USA almost annual records. comparisons indicate applicable hydro-meteorology data. produces real original data without recourse conversion.

Drought Analysis for Kuwait Using Standardized Precipitation Index

Implementation of adequate measures to assess and monitor droughts is recognized as a major matter challenging researchers involved in water resources management. The objective of this study is to assess the hydrologic drought characteristics from the historical rainfall records of Kuwait with arid environment by employing the criterion of Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI). A wide range of...

A Multiscalar Drought Index Sensitive to Global Warming: The Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index

The authors propose a new climatic drought index: the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI). The SPEI is based on precipitation and temperature data, and it has the advantage of combining multiscalar character with the capacity to include the effects of temperature variability on drought assessment. The procedure to calculate the index is detailed and involves a climatic wa...

GIS analysis for vulnerability assessment of drought in Khuzestan province in Iran using standardized precipitation index (SPI)

The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) is a widely used drought index to provide good estimations of the intensity, magnitude and spatial extent of droughts. The objective of this study was to analyze the spatial pattern of drought by SPI index. In this paper, patterns of drought hazard in Khuzestan are evaluated according to the data of 17 weather stations during data recording. The influe...
