چکیده

Fusarium spp. are able to cause a wide range of opportunistic infections in both immunocompromised and immunocompetent individuals. Thus, new therapeutic options should be considered. We evaluated the antifungal activity three phytocompounds (cinnamaldehyde, CIN; carvacrol, CRV; thymol, THY), as well their activities when combined with amphotericin B (AMB), caspofungin (CAS), itraconazole (ITC) voriconazole (VRC) against 20 clinical isolates Fusarium. Broth microdilution (M38-A2) checkerboard methodologies were used obtain MICs (Minimum inhibitory concentration) FICIs (Fractional Inhibitory Concentration Index), respectively. The observed for were: 20–80 CIN, 40-> 320 CRV 40–320 µg/mL THY. most effective combinations (synergism rates) THY + CAS (96%), (88%), AMB (76%), (68%), VRC (68%) (60%). Our findings suggest that have potent CAS, or VRC.

In vitro Antifungal Activity of Biopolymeric Foam Activated with Carvacrol

Background: Active packaging represents a defining strategy to improve food quality and safety of the packaged foods. This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro ability of commercial biopolymeric foams, namely Mater-Bi (MB), activated with 20% of carvacrol, to develop a completely biodegradable and compostable packaging to inhibit the growth of spoilage and pathogenic yeasts. Methods: MB foams,...

Antifungal effect of essential oil components against Aspergillus niger when loaded into silica mesoporous supports.

BACKGROUND Essential oil components (EOCs) are known for their antifungal properties; however, their high volatility limits their application as antimicrobial agents. Strategies used for controlling the volatility of EOCs include encapsulation or loading into porous materials. This study evaluated the in vitro antifungal activity of selected EOCs (carvacrol, cinnamaldehyde, eugenol and thymol) ...
