Active tectonics and paleo-earthquakes in north Yumu Shan, northern Tibetan Plateau: Insights from structural analysis and radiocarbon dating

چکیده
The Yumu Shan is located at the northern margin of Tibetan Plateau in northwest China. It characterized by development several northeastward-protruding arcuate geomorphic bulge belts on its north slope. These are distributed along Wutongquan spring, ancient Camel City, and Xiaogengzi area, south to Gaotai City Hexi Corridor. In this study, our detailed field mapping structural analysis reveal northeastward active anticline folding curved related lacustrine sediments their hinterlands. Radiocarbon dating plant charcoal samples from sedimentary layers yields a 14 C age AD 178 ± 42. This close time 180AD/Ms7.5 earthquake Biaoshi (i.e., Zhangye City) during Eastern Han Dynasty. similarity between seismic events leads us infer that layer records major flood event earthquake. We propose fault-related fold model for formation sediments. First, series historical activities Holocene, especially earthquake, may have led blind thrust faulting plateau. Then, thrusting resulted folding, causing bulges. latter acts as flood-retaining dam, resulting hinterland deposition For reason, we suggest seismogenic responsible uplift northward growth Plateau. As northernmost Fault could be considered North Boundary Thrust (NBT), which defines exactly

Paleoglaciation of Shaluli Shan, southeastern Tibetan Plateau
Reconstructing the paleoglaciation of the Tibetan Plateau is critical to understanding linkages between regional climate changes and global climate changes, and herewe focus on the glacial history of the Shaluli Shan, an area of the southeastern Tibetan Plateau that receives much of its precipitation from monsoon flow. Based on field investigation, geomorphological mapping, and 10Be exposure da...
متن کاملGeomorphic and structural assessment of active tectonics in NW Alborz
Alborz Mountains is a region of active deformation within Arabia-Eurasia collision zone. The study fault system in western Alborz comprises abundant evidence of active faulting accompanied by occurrence of historical earthquakes. Active tectonics of Manjil-Rudbar fault zone whose movement caused destructive 1990 Manjil-Rudbar earthquake was concentrated in this article through geomorphic and st...

متن کاملOligocene-Miocene Mammalian Fossils from Hongyazi Basin and Its Bearing on Tectonics of Danghe Nanshan in Northern Tibetan Plateau
A shortage of Cenozoic vertebrate fossils in the Tibetan Plateau has been an obstacle in our understanding of biological evolution in response to changes in tectonism, topography, and environment. This is especially true for Paleogene records, so far known by only two sites along the northern rim of the Plateau. We report a Hongyazi Basin in northern Tibetan Plateau that produces at least three...
