Activated Carbons for Syngas Desulfurization: Evaluating Approaches for Enhancing Low-Temperature H2S Oxidation Rate

چکیده
Its relatively low cost and high surface area makes activated carbon an ideal adsorbent candidate for H2S removal. However, physical adsorption of is not very effective; therefore, methods to facilitate reactive oxidation on carbons are interest. The performance removal non-impregnated, impregnated, doped in low-temperature syngas was evaluated fixed-bed breakthrough tests. importance oxygen content relative humidity established Impregnates especially improved the rate compared non-impregnated carbons. Non-impregnated could however retain a capture capacity with sufficient contact time. In test, best achieved by carbon, 320 mg g−1. Ammonia found significantly improve carbon. A small quantity ammonia consumed bed, suggesting that reactant. Finally, validate ammonia-enhanced desulfurization, bench-scale experiments were performed biomass-based gasification syngas. results show when concentration tens ppm range, 40–160 proceeded rapidly. Ammonia-enhanced allows utilization cheaper situ improvement kinetics. enhancement therefore as viable method achieving high-capacity unmodified

متن کاملTiO2 Nanotubes Membrane Flexible Sensor for Low-Temperature H2S Detection
This paper presents the fabrication and characterization of a flexible gas sensor based on TiO2 nanotubes membrane, onto which array interdigitated gold electrodes in one side and a common heater in the backside were obtained using conventional microfabrication techniques. This was used to detect hydrogen sulphide within a concentration range of 6–38 ppm. The response to low concentrations of H...
متن کاملImpregnated Carbons for the Adsorption of H2s and Mercaptans
Activated carbon has been used for many years for the adsorption of H2S and Mercaptans from natural gas streams, carbon dioxide, and sewage vents. It is widely thought that the carbon pore surface catalyses the oxidation of HzS to elemental sulfur and higher oxidized forms of su l fd2 . However, due to the poor loading capacities achieved at ambient conditions, most commercial activated carbon ...
متن کاملSulfur Impregnation on Activated Carbon Fibers through H2S Oxidation for Vapor Phase Mercury Removal
Sulfur was impregnated onto activated carbon fibers ACFs through H2S oxidation catalyzed by the sorbent surface in a fixed-bed reactor. By changing the temperature and duration of the sulfur impregnation process, ACFs with different sulfur contents were developed. Characterization of ACFs before and after sulfur impregnation was conducted by surface area analysis, energy dispersive X-ray analys...
متن کاملLow temperature regeneration of activated carbons using microwaves: revising conventional wisdom.
The purpose of this work was to explore the application of microwaves for the low temperature regeneration of activated carbons saturated with a pharmaceutical compound (promethazine). Contrary to expectations, microwave-assisted regeneration did not lead to better results than those obtained under conventional electric heating. At low temperatures the regeneration was incomplete either under m...
