Achieving High Reliability in Data Acquisition

An urban environment defines a specific micro-climate which directly affects the quality of life in urbanized areas and often has negative impact on populations. Phenomena like heat surface islands are direct products an lifestyle. Urban meteorological networks (UMNs) tool that can help to better understand analyze current situation make right decisions about future development. Deployed monitor record different objects their states inside areas, UMNs build long-term data time series database. The most commonly used systems for achieving this goal include wireless sensor (WSNs). This paper presents combined experience deploying three WSN systems. During seven years research field, authors have recognized importance reliability acquisition. More importantly, due lack addressing received from WSNs by core segment server (processes receiving, validating, parsing, storing into database instance), scientific studies without questioning reliability. To determine possibility shifting information provided measured before it is stored desired form database, proposes highly reliable socket model. model built with high performance mind includes major processes, use combination signals control messages pass states. A case study performed using high-end hardware, running Linux operating system stressed its limits. Repetition testing revealed inconsistency application layer, could lead loss short-term rarely occurring monitored objects. results conclusion there clear need higher level process acquisition UMNs. proposed should fill gap within server’s segment.
