Accessibility in sustainability transitions: U.S. electric utilities’ deployment of solar

چکیده

Several policies promote the adoption of renewable electricity among incumbent utilities. Yet, scale consumer appears limited by accessibility. The underlying factors inhibiting accessibility are exacerbated with low- and middle-income (LMI) consumers who not only have substantial income disparities but also make up a significant proportion utility's customer base. While prior research demonstrates that can help in scaling participation hurdles solar, extent to which utility efforts unlock market potential for LMI is evident. We contribute distributional effects environmental policy evaluating utilities' provide access clean energy. Reviewing solar initiatives utilities, as reflected on their website enhanced secondary archival data, we find role particularly households, either through community projects (CSP) or rooftop installations, shaped complementary factors. Such include ownership models subscriptions panel ownership, disparity, regulatory regime, combination these Our findings further suggest utilities more likely support CSPs presence intervention such incentives retail choice markets when base significantly households. In fact, subscription stronger markets, whereas panels an increasing function income.

Integrating information systems in electric utilities

This paper presents an integration system ISIS has developed for electric utilities, on top of which decision support tools can be cost-effectively developed and integrated with the other information system commonly present in electric utilities. The system, called the Integrated Distribution Management System (IDMS), provides an easily configurable integration framework, and currently includes...

Advanced Process Control in Electric Utilities

Figure 1. Reduction in variance after MPC is applied. M odel-based predictive control (MPC) is a valuable, proven advanced process control (APC) approach that has been used for some time, especially in the chemical and hydrocarbon processing industries. It has been underutilized until recently in the power industry, and in that segment, MPC is now also showing dramatic results. The strength of ...

Productivity Growth and Efficiency under Leontief Technology: An Application to US Steam-Electric Power Generation Utilities

− A theoretical framework is developed for decomposing partial factor productivity and measuring technical inefficiency when the underlying technology is characterized by factor non-substitution. With Farrell’s (1957) radial index of technical inefficiency being inappropriate in this case, Russell’s (1985; 1987) non-radial indices are adapted to measure technical inefficiency in a Leontief mode...

An E - Market System for Electric Utilities

iii ABSTRACT Multi-Agent Systems play a very important role in Distributed Artificial Intelligence. Many multi-agent systems have been built to represent a variety of social structures, such as teams (formed by a team leader recruiting qualified members for problem solving), alliances (temporary groups formed by agents with similar goal structures), coalitions (similar to alliances except the m...
