چکیده
Abstract Background: Intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) has been shown to be a safe and effective therapy for depression in adult populations more recently, newer protocols of accelerated transcranial magnetic (TMS) have become popularized due the fast-acting effects. Previous literature that iTBS adolescents is TMS may younger individuals, but it yet explored great detail with protocols. Methods: This case series describes three patients seen context an outpatient clinic setting at Acacia Mental Health. The were treated depressive symptoms which confirmed by staff psychiatrist. Self-reported mood surveys as assessed patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), administered pre-treatment post-treatment. treatment protocol these varied brain region(s) targeted, machine output intensity, laterality, number sessions per day, total sessions. treatments delivered via MagVenture MagPro R30 system (MagVenture A/S, Denmark) equipped Cool-B65 A/P coil. Results: All cases prescribed distinct protocols; two achieved self-reported remission one response measured PHQ-9. tolerated without significant adverse events, demonstrating this MDD. Conclusion: In adolescent patients, showed meaningful clinical These support rationale future applications populations. Future studies should examine larger cohorts gain deeper understanding safety efficacy adolescents. Research Category Technology Methods Clinical Research: 10. Theta-burst repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder with concomitant depression.
To the Editor: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a potential therapy for major depressive disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder that acts by modulating cortical activities. 3 have developed a novel paradigm of theta-burst stimulation (TBS)—low-intensity bursts of rTMS at 50 Hz—as a safer, more controllable, more consistent, and longer-lasting rTMS. The continuous TBS (...
متن کاملModulation of somatosensory evoked potentials using transcranial magnetic intermittent theta burst stimulation.
OBJECTIVE To study the modulation of somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) using transcranial magnetic intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) over human primary motor (M1) and sensory (S1) cortices. METHODS Eleven healthy subjects participated in the study. Median nerve SEP were elicited by electrical stimulation at the right wrist before and after 600-pulse iTBS over M1 or S1 of the lef...
متن کاملTranscranial Magnetic Stimulation with Intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation Alters Corticospinal Output in Patients with Chronic Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury
Intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) is intended primarily to alter corticospinal excitability, creating an attractive opportunity to alter neural output following incomplete spinal cord injury (SCI). This study is the first to assess the effects of iTBS in SCI. Eight individuals with chronic incomplete SCI were studied. Sham or real iTBS was delivered (to each participant) over primary ...
متن کاملTheta-burst transcranial magnetic stimulation alters cortical inhibition.
Human cortical excitability can be modified by repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), but the cellular mechanisms are largely unknown. Here, we show that the pattern of delivery of theta-burst stimulation (TBS) (continuous versus intermittent) differently modifies electric activity and protein expression in the rat neocortex. Intermittent TBS (iTBS), but not continuous TBS (cTBS),...
متن کاملIntermittent Theta-Burst Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Alters Electrical Properties of Fast-Spiking Neocortical Interneurons in an Age-Dependent Fashion
Modulation of human cortical excitability by repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) appears to be in part related to changed activity of inhibitory systems. Our own studies showed that intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS) applied via rTMS to rat cortex primarily affects the parvalbumin-expressing (PV) fast-spiking interneurons (FSIs), evident via a strongly reduced PV expres...
