Academic Identity, School Belongingness, Athletic Identity, and Athletic Expectations as Predictors of Academic and Athletic Time Use of College Athletes

Abstract Time demands are among the primary challenges for college student-athletes. They have to attend classes and study halls as well athletic-related activities such training competition. Both academic athletic tasks require tremendous amount of time. Thus, it is argued that academics athletics compete student-athletes’ attention. This research examined impact factors on time use in using a subset 2015 United States National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) GOALS data. The relationships identity, school belongingness, expectations with spent were tested. Differences variables interest according race, gender, division level also investigated. Our findings revealed identity positive predictor negative use, while spent. We determined contrasting influence commitments.
