Abundance of Microplastics in Wastewater Treatment Sludge

چکیده
Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have been regarded as feasible interceptors of microplastics, which now contaminated all spheres the environment. The microplastics removed from WWTPs are frequently trapped in sludge produced. This article aims to examine abundance different regions by reviewing relevant scholarly papers published between 2016 2022. were retrieved three databases, namely Web Science, Scopus, and ScienceDirect. receive influents containing whose differs significantly relation population density, urbanization level, land use areas served. Depending on water strategies efficiencies WWTPs, a large proportion is sludge, giving common sludge-to-influent ratio 0.02 0.77, though 3.4 has reported for recycled activated sludge. Sludge affects final therein. However, relationship that cannot be established. reutilization fertilizer introduces back into environment compromises potential sinks microplastics. review calls technologies reduce, if not remove WWTPs. It suggests future research could take this path optimize role Doi: 10.28991/HEF-2022-03-01-010 Full Text: PDF

Expanded granular sludge bed bioreactor in wastewater treatment
The expanded granular sludge bed bioreactor appears today as a cheap, robust and more popular technology because it operates using a fluidized bed, which allows increasing in organic load and in cell retention times, generating higher treatment efficiencies (up to 95 %) and renewable energy (i.e., biogas, biomethane, and biohydrogen). Nevertheless, the efficiency of this bioreactor mainly depen...
متن کاملSludge Characterization of an Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant, Iran
Background and purpose: Disposing sludge from industrial wastewater treatment plants (IWWTPs) is a serious issue because it can affect human and animals health, and also environmental quality. In this study, sludge from an IWWTP was analyzed regarding its physicochemical characteristics and disposal options. Materials and Methods: Grab sampling was used to collect 12 sludge samples biweekly (Ma...
متن کاملTextile wastewater treatment: aerobic granular sludge vs activated sludge systems.
Textile effluents are characterised by high content of recalcitrant compounds and are often discharged (together with municipal wastewater to increase their treatability) into centralized wastewater treatment plants with a complex treatment scheme. This paper reports the results achieved adopting a granular sludge system (sequencing batch biofilter granular reactor - SBBGR) to treat mixed munic...
