Graph Minor Theory László
A monumental project in graph theory was recently completed. The project, started by Robertson and Seymour, and later joined by Thomas, led to entirely new concepts and a new way of looking at graph theory. The motivating problem was Kuratowski’s characterization of planar graphs, and a far-reaching generalization of this, conjectured by Wagner: If a class of graphs is minor-closed (i.e., it is...
متن کاملResearch Advances at Avi-lab
The Acquisition, Analysis, Visualization and Imaging laboratory, AVI-Lab, is at the Department of Life, Health and Environmental Sciences of the University of L’Aquila. It was established in 1995 and, since then, the research activity is mostly centred on the study, development and testing of algorithms for signal acquisition and processing, image reconstruction, enhancement, filtering, analysi...
متن کاملDiscovery and Early Development of AVI-7537 and AVI-7288 for the Treatment of Ebola Virus and Marburg Virus Infections
There are no currently approved treatments for filovirus infections. In this study we report the discovery process which led to the development of antisense Phosphorodiamidate Morpholino Oligomers (PMOs) AVI-6002 (composed of AVI-7357 and AVI-7539) and AVI-6003 (composed of AVI-7287 and AVI-7288) targeting Ebola virus and Marburg virus respectively. The discovery process involved identificatio...
متن کاملRegarding a Representation-Theoretic Conjecture of Wigderson
We show that there exists a family of irreducible representations ρi (of finite groups Gi) such that, for any constant t, the average of ρi over t uniformly random elements g1, . . . ,gt ∈ Gi has operator norm 1 with probability approaching 1 as i → ∞. This settles a conjecture of Wigderson in the negative.
