چکیده

Background: Horton’s disease (HD) or giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a segmental and plurifocal inflammatory panarteritis, predominant in large medium sized vessels. Ocular damage during frequent considered the most serious damage, possibly causing blindness 15% of cases recent series (1). Objectives: Describe different ophthalmological manifestations GCA. Methods: This retrospective monocentric descriptive study 19 files subjects diagnosed with HD, hospitalized internal medicine department de Sousse between January 2000 December 2020. Results: The average age patients at diagnosis was 70 years, extremes 53 92 years. There were 14 females (71.4%) 5 males (28.6%). Ophthalmologic present 13 (71%), 6 whom female. Decreased visual acuity reported 8 (58.33%) biolateral one case, blur 9 (75%), eye pain two cases. Ophthalmological examination normal (42%). A decrease objective 4 (21%). One case nodular episcleritis noted. fundus showed anterior ischemic optic neuropathy 2 (10.5%) left atrophy another case. field performed showing associated retrobulbar neuritis. Therapeutically, Methylprednisolone boli prescribed neuropathy, followed by oral corticosteroid therapy dose 1mg/kg/day. 0.7 mg/kg/day prednisone other Blindness irreversible. Conclusion: common diseases HD are acute neuritis, retinal artery occlusion posterior neuropathy. Episcleritis rare ophthalmologic manifestation this vasculitis (2). More exceptionally, may cause NORB affecting vessels that supply nerve (< 5% cases)(3,4). In our studies, neuritis less observed than literature. probably due to reduced number patients. [Neurological manifestations of giant cell arteritis].

The article describes clinical, including neurological manifestations, of giant cell arteritis (GCA) - granulomatous vasculitis of large and medium-sized vessels, predominantly craniofacial, including precerebral and cerebral, arteries. Histopathological features of GCA are illustrated by the schemes of panarteritis and «postarteritis» (proliferative and fibrotic changes in the intima, underlyi...

Giant-cell arteritis without cranial manifestations

Diagnosis of giant-cell arteritis (GCA) is challenging in the absence of cardinal cranial symptoms/signs. We aimed to describe the clinical presentation, diagnostic process, and disease course of GCA patients without cranial symptoms, and to compare them to those of patients with typical cranial presentation. In this retrospective multicenter study, we enrolled patients with GCA who satisfied a...

“Extra-Cranial” Manifestations of Giant Cell Arteritis

Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a primitive systemic vasculitis related to a sub-acute inflammatory panarteritis, histologically characterized by segmentary and plurifocal damage, with giant cells and destruction of the internal elastic lamina. GCA involves large and medium sized vessels in subjects over 50, particularly between 75 and 85, and is more common in women (7:3sex-ratio). This arteriti...
