Anti-IgE autoantibodies in systemic sclerosis (scleroderma).
An enzyme immunoassay was used to determine the prevalence of anti-IgE auto-antibodies in 66 patients with systemic sclerosis (scleroderma) stratified according to extent and duration of disease. Serum IgG anti-IgE antibodies were detected in 14 (21%) patients and IgM anti-IgE antibodies in nine (14%) patients. The overall prevalence of IgG or IgM isotypes was 21/66, (32%). Anti-IgE autoantibod...

151 I n this issue of Diabetes Care, Hawa et al. (1) conclude that " the pathogenesis of antigen-specific antibodies in type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes is similar and p robably involves a chronic nonrandom antigen-driven polyclonal B-cell activation that is consistent with a Th1-type immune response. " The data presented also indicate that what are now standard anti-islet autoantibody assay...

anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies have been detected in patients with some autoimmune and vascular diseases such as wegner's granulomatosis, polyarthritis nodosa and systemic lupus erythematosus. indirect immunofluorescence technique has been employed to detect these autoantibodies. by this method, two general patterns of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies were seen: a cytoplasmic (...
