A Wideband Scanning Circularly Polarized Array Antenna Based on the Shorted Transmission Line Model

Due to the huge potential of application in communications, electronic jamming, and radar fields, circularly polarized (CP) array antennas with wide axial ratio (AR) scanning performance at frequency bandwidth have received great attention. A wideband CP planar antenna built by new, tightly coupled dipole (CP-TCDA) elements, which achieved promising results terms both AR angle range all planes, is presented this paper. Based on shorted transmission line model, a CP-TCDA element arranged along ±45° direction constructed, can shift middle-frequency blind zone out band thus obtain bandwidth. Furthermore, proposed adopts four shorting pins square parasitic strips, improve wide-angle for xz-plane diagonal-plane scans, respectively. An 8×8 left-handed based elements designed prototyped. The show that able operate over 3:1 (4–12 GHz) overlapping bandwidth, it meets requirements < 3 dB active VSWR 2.9 within range.
