When circuits are set up and dismantled dynamically in elastic optical networks, the link spectrum becomes fragmented. The fragmentation limits available path choices may lead to significant blocking of connection requests. can be due non-contiguity spectral resources on individual links or non-continuity paths study its management is essential operate networks efficiently. This paper proposes a vectored metric for characterizing fragmentation, which includes both types fragmentation. We discuss characteristics this considering different network scenarios, where requests arrive depart dynamically. To establish functionality metric, we also test utility cases. compare link-based metrics path-based with our Adapted understand efficacy proposed measure. find effective study.
