Numerical Convergence Study of Nearly Incompressible, Inviscid Taylor-Green Vortex Flow

A spectral method and a fifth-order weighted essentially non-oscillatory method were used to examine the consequences of filtering in the numerical simulation of the three-dimensional evolution of nearly-incompressible, inviscid Taylor-Green vortex flow. It was found that numerical filtering using the high-order exponential filter and low-pass filter with sharp high mode cutoff applied in the s...

Inviscid incompressible limits of strongly stratified fluids

We consider the motion of a compressible viscous fluid in the asymptotic regime of low Mach and high Reynolds numbers under strong stratification imposed by a conservative external force. Assuming a bi-dimensional character of the flow, we identify the limit system represented by the so-called lake equation the Euler system supplemented by an anelastic type constraint imposed by the limit densi...

Blending Finite-Difference and Vortex Methods for Incompressible Flow Computations

We describe and illustrate numerical procedures that combine grid and particle solvers for the solution of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. These procedures include vortex in cell (VIC) and domain decomposition schemes. Numerical comparisons with pure finitedifference methods demonstrate the effectiveness of these techniques for various flow geometries, bounded or unbounded.

Nonlinear Excitation of Inviscid Stationary Vortex in a Boundary-Layer Flow

We examine the excitation of inviscid stationary cross ow instabilities near an isolated surface hump (or indentation) underneath a three-dimensional boundary layer. As the hump height (or indentation depth) is increased from zero, the receptivity process becomes nonlinear even before the stability characteristics of the boundary layer are modi ed to a signi cant extent. This behavior contrasts...
