A Two?Layer Turbulence?Based Model to Predict Suspended Sediment Concentration in Flows With Aquatic Vegetation

چکیده
Traditional bed shear stress-based models (e.g., Rouse model) derived from the classic parabolic profile of eddy viscosity in open-channel flows fail to accurately predict suspended sediment concentration (SSC) with aquatic vegetation. We developed a two-layer, turbulence-based model SSC profiles emergent vegetated flows. Turbulence generated vegetation, bed, and coherent structures caused by stem-bed-flow interaction are considered into near-bed turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) calculate effective velocity, . The model, validated experimental data, further showed that thickness height layer (effective bottom boundary layer), Hb, varies flow velocity canopy density. Two additional provided estimate Hb is expected provide critical information future studies on transport, landscape evolution, water quality management streams, wetlands, estuaries.

Dual Behavior of Suspended Sediment Concentration in a Regulated River
Better understanding of suspended sediment transport processes allows for better management of both rivers and coasts. Based on field data and sediment transport energy theory, this study presents an analysis on the suspended sediment hysteresis in the Lower Tenryu River of Japan in connection to the channel carrying capacity of suspended sediment and morphological characteristics. The transpor...
متن کاملEstimating Suspended Sediment Concentration in Streams by Diffuse Light Attenuation
A light attenuation sensor system (LASS) for measurements in waters is described in this paper. The LASS records irradiance at multiple levels in the water column to provide a measure of the diffuse light attenuation coefficient which is strongly affected by suspended sediment. Dimensional analysis and geometric optical theory are used to relate the irradiance attenuation to sediment properties...

The present study investigates the performances of the three-dimensional multicomponent hydro-sedimentary model ROMS (Regional Ocean Modeling System) to predict near-surface suspended sediment concentrations (SSC) in the English Channel (western Europe). Predictions are assessed against satellite-retrieved observations from raw MODIS and MERIS images for the year 2008 characterized by the highe...
متن کاملParameterization of Time-Averaged Suspended Sediment Concentration in the Nearshore
To quantify the effect of wave breaking turbulence on sediment transport in the nearshore, the vertical distribution of time-averaged suspended sediment concentration (SSC) in the surf zone was parameterized in terms of the turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) at different cross-shore locations, including the bar crest, bar trough, and inner surf zone. Using data from a large-scale laboratory experim...
