A tutorial on norming linguistic stimuli for clinical populations

چکیده

Stimuli norming (the process of controlling experimental items to minimise bias) is important for the validity psycholinguistic experiments. Survey (asking large numbers people rate or otherwise define items) typically used this purpose but requires samples. Clinical populations are not always large, nor easy reach. participants often have ongoing symptomatology, and some cohorts experience language communication difficulties. We present a corpus-linguistic method suitable clinical which survey difficult inappropriate. also include experiment generated, measures metaphor-creation behaviour in schizophrenia test Cognitive Constraint Theory (CCT) nonclinical (see S2.1). describe design rationale before outlining stages tutorial form. This allows us show readers why approach was needed support them consider respond challenges that we encountered. conclude it easier practices parallel when units defined linguistically. Corpus stimuli provides versatile alternative prohibitive, especially speech pathology.

On the norming of homophones.

Associative norms for homographs have been widely used in the study of language processing. A number of sets of these are available, providing the investigator with the opportunity to compare materials collected over a span of years and a range of locations. Words that are homophonic but not homographic have been used to address a variety of questions in memory as well as in language processing...

A tutorial on multiblock discriminant correspondence analysis (MUDICA): a new method for analyzing discourse data from clinical populations.

PURPOSE In communication disorders research, clinical groups are frequently described based on patterns of performance, but researchers often study only a few participants described by many quantitative and qualitative variables. These data are difficult to handle with standard inferential tools (e.g., analysis of variance or factor analysis) whose assumptions are unfit for these data. This art...

Medical nanobiosensors: A tutorial review

A sensitive monitoring of biological analytes, such as biomolecules (protein, lipid, DNA and RNA), and biological cells (blood cell, virus and bacteria), is essential to assess and avoid risks for human health. Nanobiosensors, analytical devices that combine a biologically sensitive element with a nanostructured transducer, are being widely used for molecular detection of biomarkers associated ...

a study on thermodynamic models for simulation of 1,3 butadiene purification columns

attempts have been made to study the thermodynamic behavior of 1,3 butadiene purification columns with the aim of retrofitting those columns to more energy efficient separation schemes. 1,3 butadiene is purified in two columns in series through being separated from methyl acetylene and 1,2 butadiene in the first and second column respectively. comparisons have been made among different therm...
