A Tractable Approach to Coverage Analysis in Downlink Satellite Networks

Satellite networks are promising to provide ubiquitous and high-capacity global wireless connectivity. Traditionally, satellite modeled by placing satellites on a grid of multiple circular orbit geometries. Such network model, however, requires intricate system-level simulations evaluate coverage performance, analytical understanding the is limited. Continuing success stochastic geometry in tractable analysis for terrestrial networks, this paper, we develop novel models that using geometry. By modeling locations users Poisson point processes surfaces concentric spheres, characterize expressions probability typical downlink user as function relevant parameters, including path-loss exponent, height, density, Nakagami fading parameter. Then, also derive tight lower bound expression while keeping full generality. Leveraging derived expression, identify optimal density terms height exponent. Our key finding average number decreases logarithmically with maximize performance. Simulation results verify exactness expressions.
