A Survey of Power System State Estimation Using Multiple Data Sources: PMUs, SCADA, AMI, and Beyond

State estimation (SE) is indispensable for the situa-tional awareness of power systems. Conventional SE fed by measurements collected from supervisory control and data ac-quisition (SCADA) system. In recent years, available sources have been greatly enriched with deployment phasor meas-urement units (PMUs), advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), etc. The integration multi-ple provides unprecedented opportunities en-hancing performance SE, but also presents major challenges to resolve, including optimal multi-type-sensor co-placement, mul-tiple reporting rates asynchronization, diverse types meas-ured quantities, correlations between measurements, online historical sources, system measurement uncertainties. This paper outlines state art research in this area providing a comprehensive literature review extensive discussions. It starts presenting moti-vations challenges, followed summary existing Subsequently, both transmis-sion (static dynamic) distribution ex-isting methods are systematically reviewed categorized based on addressed challenges.
