A sulfonated modification of PEEK for ultralow friction

چکیده
Abstract Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is a widely used material for friction pairs due to its excellent mechanical strength, good wear resistance, and chemical inertness. However, some modifications are necessary when PEEK as water-lubricated pair. In this study, novel sulfonation method was developed design pair with ultralow friction, high loading capacity. powders were sulfonated using ClSO 3 H sintered form bulk plastic. The (SPEEK) plastic exhibited tribological properties. At low sliding speed, the coefficient smaller than 0.02 wt% NaCl solution lubricant. order of magnitude rate 10 −8 mm /(N·m). mechanism reduction mainly hydration lubrication. negatively charged −SO − groups on can adsorb hydrated Na + cations by electrostatic interactions. These have load capacity shearing resistance. observed in study possibly properties prepared through proposed thermoforming procedures.

Origin of ultralow friction and wear in ultrananocrystalline diamond.
The impressively low friction and wear of diamond in humid environments is debated to originate from either the stability of the passivated diamond surface or sliding-induced graphitization/rehybridization of carbon. We find ultralow friction and wear for ultrananocrystalline diamond surfaces even in dry environments, and observe negligible rehybridization except for a modest, submonolayer amou...

It is shown using a method based on a modified version of the mean field theory of Miklavic and Marcelja [J. Phys. Chem. 92, 6718 (1988)] that it should be possible for osmotic pressure due to the counterions associated with the two polyelectrolyte polymer brush coated surfaces to support a reasonable load (i.e., about 10(6) Pa) with the brushes held sufficiently far apart to prevent entangleme...
متن کاملSynthesis and Process Optimization of Electrospun PEEK-Sulfonated Nanofibers by Response Surface Methodology
In this study electrospun nanofibers of partially sulfonated polyether ether ketone have been produced as a preliminary step for a possible development of composite proton exchange membranes for fuel cells. Response surface methodology has been employed for the modelling and optimization of the electrospinning process, using a Box-Behnken design. The investigation, based on a second order polyn...
