A Study to Assess the Practice of Exclusive Breastfeeding among Postnatal Mothers in Kashmir

Breastfeeding is the process of feeding a newborn with mothers milk and it very important for enhancing child maternal health .Exclusive breastfeeding means that an infant receives only breast from his or her mother wet nurse expresses no other liquids solids, not even water, exception oral rehydration solution, drops syrups consisting vitamins, mineral supplements medicines. For almost all infants, remains easiest, healthiest least costly method to meet needs infants. However, 40% children worldwide are exclusively breastfed which far recommendation. In low income middle-income countries, 37% breastfed. Exclusive (EBF) recommended first six months age by World Health Organization. Methods: The study was carried out among randomly selected post natal in hospital Kashmir. Data collection done help face interview using pre-tested predesigned structured questionnaire having information about demographic profile participants practices feeding. sample size 60 postnatal mothers. Result: data analyzed calculating score terms frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi- square, paired T- test. findings revealed 26.7% were poor practice regarding breastfeeding, 50.0% fair 23.3% good practices.
