A Study on Lip Movements Area and Vowel Space Area According to the Depressive Disorders

Background and Objectives This study aims to investigate the lip movements area (LMA) vowel space according depression.Materials Method The participants diagnosed with voice disorders or thyroid cancer before treatment surgery. All completed depression questionnaire recorded five vowels (/a, i, u, e, o/) phonation while shooting. Among total 64 participants, there were 19 in depressive group 45 non-depressive group. analysis parameters LMA, areas (Area3 & Area5), formant centralization ratio (FCR), fundamental frequency (F0) intensity (intensity). Multivariate of variance (MANOVA) was applied, age treated as a covariate correct for movement that could deteriorate increased.Results As result MANOVA, no significant difference between groups (p=0.517). Looking at both male female disorder showed lower mean value than Area3 FCR higher those group, whereas Area5, male’s had slightly value.Conclusion presence absence similar, but tended show narrower oral smaller opening.
