On the conduction velocity of nonmyelinated nerve fibers.
Nerve impulse conduction in nonmyelinated nerve fibers is analyzed by considering this process as a direct consequence of the coexistence of two structurally distinct regions, active and resting. Assuming that the active (i.e. swollen) region of the fiber is in direct contact with the resting (i.e. shrunken) region, a simple procedure for deriving the conduction velocity equation is described. ...
متن کاملVolume expansion of nonmyelinated nerve fibers during impulse conduction.
Nonmyelinated nerve fibers undergo rapid volume expansion while carrying an impulse. This volume expansion is incurred as a consequence of a lateral expansion of the excited portion of the fibers, where the superficial layer is transformed into a low-density structure.
متن کاملA Study of the Conduction Velocity of Sensory Fibers 'of the Ulnar Nerve in leprosy!
Measurement of peripheral nerve conduction in man dates back to von HelmhQltz ( 1:' . Ili) and now forms a part of routine clinical examination in various neuropathic conditions. Prominent in this group is leprosy, but it is surprising to note in an editorial by Wade ( 18) that as late as 1954 sufficient information on the conduction velocity of peripheral nerves in leprosy was not available. I...
متن کاملPostnatal Changes of Conduction Velocity of the Fibers in and out of the Mouse Barrel Cortex
There are some conflicts about constancy of conduction velocity (CV) in a given tract of nervous system. By recording excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSC) in layer IV of the somatosensory cortex we tried to clear changes in CV of thalamocortical tract of mice aged 3 to 50 days old. Field potentials and EPSC were recorded in the layer IV by stimulation of ventrobasal nucleus of thalamus (VB) ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Changes in Nerve Conduction Velocity in the Lower Limbs of Football Players
Background & Aims: Lower limbs’ nerves are exposed to mechanical injuries in athletes (e.g. football players), because of the excessive physical demand of their job. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the influence of regular and intense sports, such as football, on nerves in the lower leg. This study was conducted during 2006 to 2007 in the Shiraz Rehabilitation Faculty, Univer...
