A Single Particle Model with Electrolyte and Side Reactions for degradation of lithium-ion batteries

Battery degradation, which is the reduction of performance over time, one main roadblocks to wide deployment lithium-ion batteries. Physics-based models, such as those based on Doyle-Fuller-Newman model, are invaluable tools understand and predict phenomena. However, these models often too complex for practical applications, so reduced needed. In this article we introduce Single Particle Model with electrolyte Side Reactions, a model electrochemical degradation has been formally derived from Reactions using asymptotic methods. The validated against full three scenarios (solid-electrolyte interphase growth, lithium plating, both effects combined) showing similar accuracy at much lower computational cost. implications results twofold: simple accurate enough be used in most real framework robust it can extended account further effects.
