A simplified pneumatic model for air brake of passenger trains

Abstract Braking system performance is relevant for both railway safety and network optimization. Most trains employ air brake systems; systems of freight mostly cannot achieve a synchronous application forces, which usually customary passenger trains. The paper generalizes previous pneumatic model to describes the needed modifications. Among them, way pressure reduces in pipe generalized. Moreover, this reports an analytical bi-dimensional function calculating nozzle diameter equivalent electro-pneumatic (EP) or electronically controlled (ECP) valve as wagon length time vent locally. numerical results new are compared against several experimental tests high-speed Trenitalia, namely ETR500 ETR1000. suitable be integrated into UIC software TrainDy, aiming extend its computational field simulate during recovery.
