چکیده

Surface water quality is degraded due to industrialization; however, it one of the widely used sources for supply systems worldwide. Thus, polluted creates significant issues health end users. However, poor attention and concern can be identified on this important issue in most developing countries, including Sri Lanka. The Kelani River Lanka heart whole Colombo area has intake drinking purposes near an industrialized zone (Biyagama). Therefore, study intends analyze effect industrialization surface variation basin terms index (WQI). We proposed a regression model predict WQI using parameters. Nine parameters, pH, total phosphate, electric conductivity, biochemical oxygen demand, temperature, nitrates, dissolved oxygen, chemical chlorine evaluated quality. was examine samples obtained at twelve locations from January 2005 December 2012. highest values were found Raggahawatte Ela throughout 8 years, located Biyagama industrial zone. relationship industries stated. gradually decreased as result development activities. work showcases recommends importance introducing necessary actions considerations future management systems.

Assessment of water quality in Blinaja River Basin (Kosovo) using the Canadian Water Quality Index (WQI)

Kosovo has limited natural water resources which should be well managed. This is recently realised through quantitative and qualitative monitoring of both surface and groundwater and by characterizing their quality according to their destination. In this paper, the Water Quality Index (WQI) developed by the Canadian Council of Environment Ministers (CCME WQI) was applied to evaluate the groundw...

Developing a Water Quality Index (WQI) for an Irrigation Dam

Pollution levels have been increasing in water ecosystems worldwide. A water quality index (WQI) is an available tool to approximate the quality of water and facilitate the work of decision-makers by grouping and analyzing numerous parameters with a single numerical classification system. The objective of this study was to develop a WQI for a dam used for irrigation of about 5000 ha of agricult...

Variability of Soil Moisture in the Walawe River Basin: A Case Study in Sri Lanka Using Low-Resolution Satellite Data

Limited availability of freshwater and increasing demand for food require careful management of available resources. However, information on water utilization within river basins is often inadequate for comprehensive water management. Therefore, researchers are developing new tools and methodologies to overcome these data problems. A major concern for land use planning is the identification of ...

Sensitivity of Kelani streamflow in Sri Lanka to ENSO

As part of an effort to demonstrate the use of climate predictions for water resources management, the El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) influences on stream flow in the Kelani River in Sri Lanka were investigated using correlation analysis, composite analysis and contingency tables. El Niño (warm phase of ENSO) was associated with decreased annual stream flow and La Niña (cold phase of ENSO)...
