A Simplex Multi-Phase Approach for Modelling Debris Flows in Smoothed-Terrain-Following Coordinate System

چکیده
Herewith we present a multi-phase model for debris flows, of which the flow body is supposed to be composed water, fine sediment (clay/silt) and grains. The rheology flows varies due dynamical variation composition concentrations. In study component silt/clay an individual phase, its concentration plays key role in determining interstitial fluid. Hence, there are three phases mixture, grain clay phase water from viewpoint mass conservation. Only fluid considered momentum conservation, since suspended relative motion negligible within constituent treated as frictional Coulomb-like continuum, viscosity depends on concentration. resultant models given smoothed-terrain-following coordinate system, compromise between constraint shallow curvature terrain-fitting system retaining high resolution topography. numerical implementation developed with CUDA-library GPU-high-performance computations. feasibility applicability will presented by back calculation historical event.

A Terrain-Following Coordinate System-Derivation of Diagnostic Relationships
Generalized hydrostatic and geostrophic equations can be derived from the equations in the terrain-following framework. The generalized hydrostatic equation permits some non-hydrostatic motions (as obtained from a Cartesian framework) to remain when a non-zero slope exists. Correspondingly, the generalized geostrophic wind permits a horizontal divergent component (in addition to divergence caus...
متن کاملModelling aerated flows with smoothed particle hydrodynamics
Modelling aerated flows is a complex application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) since the interfaces between air and water change rapidly. In this work, the simulation of aerated flows with the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method is investigated with a focus towards the application in engineering practice. To prove the accuracy of the method, the processes of air entrainment and...
متن کاملModelling debris flows down general channels
This paper is an extension of the single-phase cohesionless dry granular avalanche model over curved and twisted channels proposed by Pudasaini and Hutter (2003). It is a generalisation of the Savage and Hutter (1989, 1991) equations based on simple channel topography to a twophase fluid-solid mixture of debris material. Important terms emerging from the correct treatment of the kinematic and d...

Modelling free surface flows with smoothed particle hydrodynamics
In this paper the method of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is extended to include an adaptive density kernel estimation (ADKE) procedure. It is shown that for a van der Waals (vdW) fluid, this method can be used to deal with free-surface phenomena without difficulties. In particular, arbitrary moving boundaries can be easily handled because surface tension is effectively simulated by the...
