A simple counterexample for the permanent-on-top conjecture

چکیده

The permanent-on-top conjecture states that the largest eigenvalue of Schur power matrix a positive semi-definite Hermitian H is per(H). A counterexample has been found with help computers, but here, I present another can be checked by hand. My method to use linear representations groups connect spectrum spectra entrywise(Hadamard) product matrices permanental compound matrices. By that, we are able study properties through find in fact also weaker related This was known false, new smaller than one.

A Simple Counterexample to Kouchnirenko’s Conjecture

In the late 70’s A. Kouchnirenko posed the problem of bounding from above the number of positive real roots (that is, with positive coordinates) of a system of k polynomial equations in k variables not in function of the degrees of the polynomials (like in Bezout Theorem), but in function of the number of terms involved, and he conjectured an upper bound. Although he never wrote this conjecture...

A Counterexample to Borsuk's Conjecture

Let f(d) be the smallest number so that every set in Rd of diameter 1 can be partitioned into f(d) sets of diameter smaller than 1. Borsuk's conjecture was that f(d)=d+\ . We prove that f(d)>(\.2)^ for large d.

A counterexample to the simple loop conjecture for PSL(2, R)

In this note, we give an explicit counterexample to the simple loop conjecture for representations of surface groups into PSL(2, R). Specifically, we use a construction of DeBlois and Kent to show that for any orientable surface with negative Euler characteristic and genus at least 1, there are uncountably many non-conjugate, non-injective homomorphisms of its fundamental group into PSL(2, R) t...

A Counterexample to the Finite Height Conjecture

By J onsson's Lemma, the variety V(K) generated by a nite lattice has only nitely many subvarieties. This led to the conjecture that, conversely, if a lattice variety has only nitely many subvarieties, then it is generated by a nite lattice. A stronger form of the conjecture states that a nitely generated variety V(K) has only nitely many covers in the lattice of lattice varieties, and that eac...

A Counterexample to the “hot Spots” Conjecture

We construct a counterexample to the “hot spots” conjecture; there exists a bounded connected planar domain (with two holes) such that the second eigenvalue of the Laplacian in that domain with Neumann boundary conditions is simple and such that the corresponding eigenfunction attains its strict maximum at an interior point of that domain.
