A short review on pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology for nitrogen generation from air

Nitrogen is among the essential industrial gases after oxygen and hydrogen commonly obtained through air separation process. Air one of gas processes in many chemical industries since it accounts for a substantial element production costs related sectors. In response to this increasing need, most areas investigation quest cost-effective energy-efficient processes. Different technologies nitrogen generation from air, such as cryogenic distillation, membrane separation, pressure swing adsorption (PSA), were discussed. PSA offers various advantages, mainly cost, low-energy penalty, environmental impact, modularity. Since its first invention, three different configurations have been distinguished. The dynamic behavior well described using simplified coupled mass, momentum, energy balances, with some correlations. Herein, comprehensive correlations presented easy reference. As flexible process viable alternative existing technologies, we anticipate that technology will significantly contribute wide range near future.
