Abstract Heterojunction (HJ) thin-film II–VI solar cells are emergent substitutes to the traditional silicon because of improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness. A renewed interest in depositing constituent layers employing chemical bath deposition (CBD) is shown absence any stringent reaction conditions which ensures preservation properties layers. Variation growth has strong effects on morphologies resultant films specially interface. Inappropriate or alloyed interfaces may result pinholes formation affecting electric field reduced junction area enhanced recombination for carriers turn affects efficiency. In this review, we provide an overview different combinations metal chalcogenide/chalcopyrite HJ by CBD achieving control over morphology, particularly focusing interfacial epitaxial relationship found have substantial influence cell.
