A Retrospective Analysis of Acute Appendicitis in Children Treated with Laparoscopic Appendectomies at a Single Center in Dubai, UAE

<b><i>Background:</i></b> Appendicitis is one of the most common emergency conditions that occur in pediatric population. The condition usually suspected clinically, and diagnosis confirmed by radiological investigations such as ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI. This study was conducted to contribute global databases presenting data from Middle East with an objective identifying clinical characteristics children who were diagnosed acute appendicitis underwent laparoscopic appendectomy at a single surgery center Dubai. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> A 2-year hospital-based retrospective cohort Mediclinic Parkview Hospital, Dubai, enrolling all patients younger than 14 years appendectomy. Demographic data, presentation, laboratory, pathology findings, postoperative complications, readmission rates analyzed. <b><i>Results:</i></b> Fifty-six operated on enrolled this study. All (56/56) presented abdominal pain, while associated fever present 44.6% (25/56); 78.5% (44/56) had nausea but 64.3% (36/56) vomiting. On examination, tenderness, rebound tenderness right iliac fossa (RIF) found 92.8% (52/56) patients. Laboratory showed elevated leukocyte count 76.7% (43/56) ultrasound 57.4% (31/54) patients, free fluid visualized 40.7% (22/54) scan 25 64% (16/25) number admission days ranged 1 5 days, median 2 days. And 62.5% (35/56) discharged first admission. Major minor complications after documented 4 respectively. Pathology reports features resected appendices. <b><i>Conclusions:</i></b> Acute should be pain. can help guide management allow proper standardized documentation findings judicious use laboratory investigations.
