A Reef Like no Other: The Great Southern Reef

Under the water, along southern coastline of Australia, lies Great Southern Reef—a reef that many people have never heard about. The water is colder than tropical reefs and instead being built by corals, it mainly formed a specific type brown seaweed known as kelp. Just like trees on land, kelp grow cover large areas, forming underwater forests are home for kinds fish, molluscs, crustaceans, species. However, Reef facing serious threats, because rising ocean temperatures. When seawater becomes too warm, can disappear, endangering marine creatures live in ecosystem. It difficult to protect something if do not know exists! This why we need raise awareness how valuable this is. Can you help us spread word?

Halacarsantia acutasp. n. is described from Wistari Reef, Capricorn Group, southern Great Barrier Reef, the first record of the genus from Australia. The new species differs from its congeners in having antenna flagellum composed of 8 articles; epipod apically acute, without setae, broad maxilliped endite and pereopod 1 basis with a short projection.
