A questionnaire based study to assess knowledge, attitude and practice of pharmacovigilance among exam going second year undergraduate medical students in a South Indian teaching hospital

Background: Pharmacovigilance not only helps in the early detection of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) but also facilitates identification both, risk factors and underlying mechanism. To increase reporting rate, it is essential to improve knowledge, attitude, practices (KAP) healthcare professionals regarding ADR pharmacovigilance, especially during undergraduate postgraduate education. The objective this study was assess KAP about pharmacovigilance among exam-going second-year medical students.Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based conducted 150 students from Mysore Medical College Research Institute, April 2022 June 2022. validated questionnaire consisting 22 questions divided into 3 sections; practice used. Statistical analysis data done using an MS excel spreadsheet.Results: Out participants 133 had good knowledge pharmacovigilance. Majority agreed that ADRs necessary (95.3%), mandatory should be included pharmacology practicals (94.7%). Only 29.3% witnessed none ever reported indicating poor students.Conclusions: Students positive attitude towards Practice found poor, need for training by including recognition as a part clinical posting curriculum.
