چکیده

A quench detection system was developed for protecting and monitoring the superconducting solenoids Muon-to-Electron Conversion Experiment (Mu2e) at Fermilab. The designed a high level of dependability long-term continuous operation. It is based on three tiers: Tier-I, FPGA-based Digital Quench Detection (DQD); Tier-II, Analog (AQD); Tier-3, controls data management system. Tier-I Tier-II are completely independent fully redundant systems. Tier-3 National Instruments (NI) C-RIO provides user interface management. from Tiers I & II. DQD both characterization (monitoring) capability. Both AQD have built-in voltage isolation programmable gains attenuations. also includes configured current dependent thresholding validation times. 1st article three-tier implemented new Fermilab magnet test stand HL-LHC Accelerator Up-grade Project (AUP). successfully provided protection (QPM) cold bus in November 2020. Mu2e design has since been production testing AUP magnets. detailed description along with results will be presented.

A Digital Quench Detection System for Superconducting Magnets

A system has been developed for digitally detecting superconducting magnet quenches in real time. This system has been fully tested and is completely integrated into a Vertical Magnet Test Facility (VMTF)[1] at FNAL. The digital technique used for this system relies on the application of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms running on a native Motorola PowerPC VME processor. The performan...

Superconducting magnets for Energy Buncher at FAIR

THE Energy Buncher at the low energy beamline of the superconducting fragment separator (Super-FRS) (Figure 1) at FAIR is a valuable and attractive experimental device for particle identification after secondary reactions. This device will be at the heart of the experimental facility for nuclear and reaction (NuSTAR) studies using radioactive ion beams at FAIR. The dipole, quadrupole and sextup...

Wide Area Network Monitoring System for Hep Experiments at Fermilab

Large, distributed High Energy Physics (HEP) collaborations, such as D0, CDF and US-CMS, depend on stable and robust network paths between major world research centres. The evolving emphasis on data and compute Grids increases the reliance on network performance. Fermilab's experimental groups and network support personnel identified a critical need for WAN monitoring to ensure the quality and ...

Influence of Protection Circuit on Quench Characteristics for Clinical MRI Superconducting Magnets

Introduction MRI technology utilizes highly sophisticated superconducting (SC) magnet technology. During the prototyping of the SC MRI magnet, quenching (i.e., catastrophic helium evaporation and complete loss of liquid helium) can often occur. Therefore, a reliable quench analysis is very important for the development of SCMRI magnets. However, it is difficult to accurately model quench charac...
