A Qualitative Analysis of Vehicle Positioning Requirements for Connected Vehicle Applications

نویسندگان

چکیده

Many Connected Vehicle (CV) applications, including safety-critical ones such as collision warning, require lane-level positioning accuracy to function correctly. However, differential GNSS, the primary method used by CVs in current deployments across U.S., cannot always provide this level of accuracy. This is particularly true urban environments. Alternative methods or strategies must be developed fill gap. To determine what are appropriate, we first identify requirements each CV application listed USDOT?s Reference Implementation Architecture (CVRIA). These include accuracy, integrity, update rate, and type (relative absolute). Based on our overall analysis, recommend two general strategies: 1) utilize other sources information whenever possible (particularly at intersections), 2) estimate uncertainty solution use an input applications themselves.

RFID-Based Vehicle Positioning and Its Applications in Connected Vehicles

This paper proposed an RFID-based vehicle positioning approach to facilitate connected vehicles applications. When a vehicle passes over an RFID tag, the vehicle position is given by the accurate position stored in the tag. At locations without RFID coverage, the vehicle position is estimated from the most recent tag location using a kinematics integration algorithm till updates from the next t...

Robust Stability Analysis for Connected Vehicle Systems

For implementation in real traffic, connected vehicle systems should be designed to be robust against uncertainties arising from human-driven vehicles. Assuming that the bounds of uncertainties are known, we propose a frequency domain approach to guarantee robust string stability and to select optimal control parameters. The method is demonstrated by two case studies.

A Novel Hybrid-Excited Modular Variable Reluctance Motor for Electric Vehicle Applications: Analysis, Comparison, and Implementation

A variable reluctance machine (VRM) has been proven to be an outstanding candidate for electric vehicle (EV) applications. This paper introduces a new double-stator, 12/14/12-pole three-phase hybrid-excited modular variable reluctance machine (MVRM) for EV applications. In order to demonstrate the superiorities of the proposed structure, the static torque characteristics and dynamic performance...

Stability Analysis of Nonlinear Connected Vehicle Systems

In this paper, we investigate the nonlinear dynamics of connected vehicle systems. Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication is exploited when controlling the longitudinal motion of a few vehicles in the traffic flow. In order to achieve the desired systemlevel behavior, the plant stability and the head-to-tail string stability are characterized at the nonlinear level using Lyapunov functions. A m...
