A pyrolysis process coupled to a catalytic cracking stage: A potential waste-to-energy solution for mattress foam waste

Pyrolysis coupled to either thermal or catalytic cracking of mattress foam waste was performed in a laboratory-scale facility consisting fixed-bed reactor joined tubular reactor. The results showed great potential for the production syngas specially at high temperatures. Particularly, fixing 800 °C reactor, CO and CH4 rich gas with remarkable amount H2 obtained. addition catalysts (dolomite, olivine HiFUEL®) significantly decreased undesirable tar formation, (below 10 wt%), simultaneously increasing yield keeping as main components stream, becoming preferable route that non-catalytic process. Accordingly, this stream could be used preferably further applications energy generation because its heating value ranged between 15.7 MJ/Nm3 19.6 MJ/Nm3. In particular, obtained by use dolomite advantageous organic compounds such dimethyl ether (DME) well an engine boiler generate electricity small facilities. addition, solid fraction after de process medium quality refused derived fuel (LHV ~ 12 MJ/kg) order support internal requirements
