A Novel Universal Torque Control of Switched Reluctance Motors for Electric Vehicles

Due to their advantages, switched reluctance motors (SRMs) are interesting solutions for electric vehicle (EV) propulsion. However, they have the main drawback of high torque ripple. This paper develops a universal control (UTC) technique SRM that can fulfill all requirements under wide range speeds. The developed UTC involves two different techniques. It utilizes direct instantaneous (DITC) strategy in low speed region, and average (ATC) selection DITC ATC is made based on performance regarding ripple, torque/current ratio, efficiency. Moreover, novel transition between techniques introduced. results show ability proposed achieve while obtaining benefits over possible provides best minimum maximum efficiency whole range. achieves smooth operation without any disturbances. helps simplify overall algorithm, aiming feasible practical complicated structure.
